Being a Good Pig Manager
Pigs are very special creatures who deserve a clean
environment in which to live, proper health maintenance and affection. A good
pig manager, be she a pet owner or a breeder, should be:
 |
Organized:
Adhere to strict vaccination and feeding programs. Provide your pigs with
necessities, a healthy environment, and creature comforts. |
 |
Patient:
Take time to understand your pigs. Observation is an excellent teacher. If
you let your pigs know what it is you desire of them, they are most likely
to respond appropriately. |
 |
On
Top of Things: When a problem arises, deal with it immediately. |
 |
Appreciative:
Pigs have very definite personalities with a real ability to communicate.
Treat your pigs with respect and affection, while maintaining your position
at the top of the pecking order. You will be paid back in their improved
performance. |
 |
Knowledgeable:
Become pig-wise by reading and talking with other pig owners. Develop a
relationship with a vet you respect, attend seminars, shows and pig
programs. The more you know, the more effective pig manager you will be. |
