How
can such a sweet pig
get
into such mischief?

In
a Letter from Elliott's Mom...
Dear
Nancy,
A
couple of weeks ago we had a dinner party, only about eight people, not
too big. Well I knew most everyone, except for one person. She was the
date of a friend of mine, Mandy. When everyone arrived I put all their
coats and purses etc. on the bed in the other room. To make everyone’s
life easier while we ate dinner I put the dog in his cage and shut Elliott
in the bedroom so he would not be under everyone’s feet while we ate.
"...Well,
you put me in here.
I
had to find a way to amuse myself!"
When
we were finished, everyone migrated to the living room and I decided to
let the animals out. However, when I opened the bedroom door, I found
Elliott standing on top of all the coats on the bed with his snout deep
inside someone’s purse that I did not recognize. He stopped and pulled
his snout out only long enough to give me look that seemed to say,
"Well, you put me in here. I had to find a way to amuse myself."
Lo and behold it belonged to my friend’s date, Mandy. Elliott had gotten
into her purse and eaten an entire brand new tube of
lipstick. Not only that, but he had also chewed an entire brand new pack
of gum, wrappers and all. I was pretty embarrassed to say the least.
Never
underestimate the power
of
a pig’s snout to find something
and
then his determination to get it!
It
was funny though to see him standing on the mound of winter coats like he
was king of the mountain chomping happily on Wrigley’s Spearmint gum.
Luckily Mandy was a good sport, but I am not sure that she will be jumping
at the chance to return for any more dinner parties any time soon. My
warning to prospective pig parents: Never underestimate the power of a pig’s
snout to find something and then his determination to get it!
Sincerely,
Julie

National
Pig Day
at
the Candlelight Lodge
A
Letter From Nancy,
I wouldn't miss the
opportunity to take piggies to the nursing home for anything! To celebrate
National Pig Day every March 1st Pig O' My Heart provides a pig or
two for the residents of the Candlelight Lodge to interact with. It's
always a joyous event with lovely elders crunched in a circle of
wheelchairs and walkers, with the pigs as the focal point.
This year Spadias and
Touchdown were the center of attention. They did, however, have to compete
with a table full of pig paraphernalia that all the residents brought to
share with each other. The pigs were not thrilled with the linoleum floor
as it was slick and hard to walk on, so they stayed on a rug. When we
wanted them in another part of the human circle, we would just pull the
rug, while the pigs stayed planted firmly upon it, until they reached
their next group of admirers.
Questions were asked and
the piggies did tricks and were treated with apple bits and special pig
treats. Spadias and Touchdown were happy to be rubbed and talked to and
especially fed. They would have stayed all day! In fact some assisted
living facilities keep an animal or two on site for the residents to enjoy
on a daily basis. Maybe a pig is in the future for the Candlelight
Lodge... time will tell.
Sincerely,
Nancy
